Stay/Go

If I should stay
Well, I would only be in your way
And so I’ll go, and yet I know
That I’ll think of you each step of my way

And I will always love you
I will always love you
Bitter-sweet memories
That’s all I have, and all I’m taking with me
Good-bye, oh, please don’t cry
‘Cause we both know that I’m not
What you need
But I will always love you
I will always love you

And I hope life, will treat you kind
And I hope that you have all
That you ever dreamed of
Oh, I do wish you joy
And I wish you happiness
But above all this
I wish you love

So you all know Whitney’s cover from the Bodyguard soundtrack. But had you heard Dolly’s original version or even Chris Cornell’s cover? It turns out we owe the Whitney version to Kevin Costner who’s a big country fan and really insisted she sing it…

It’s one of those posts again… you know the ones? Slightly bittersweet and heartwrenching for no clear or immediate reason. Just for the theme and the beauty of the music!
I apologize; but it’s gonna be good. In that “hurts so good” kinda way.
And right now I’m going in for the kill

This time you asked where I rested my head last night
Last time you left I got my drunk ass whupped in a fight
My whole life’s been one cliched country unfinished line after line after line after line
It’s been the curse of my crazy koo-kooed up clocks most all of my lifes time after time after time
From the start I told you of my dark colourful chequered past, ya had to ask and how I ruined the lives of those I loved without so much as a bass ackwards glance
And the long winding roads buried down and blacked out towards recovery
And how it took the great god Jehovah His self to re-uncover me
I said sometimes it’s better just not to ask
But your love stood strong and pressed hard-on through that
Maybe I should’ve lied but my two wrongs wouldn’t a made it right.
And however pathetic it sounds upon it’s hearing it’s true I have been tried
and have tried, and god knows I’ve asked him why
So do you want me back or to back pack up all of my things
Maybe If I had not drank
All of my money behind the bars I just coulda bought you a ring
And from the last doin’ time I got those walkin’ papers bailed up and outta your jail I’d barely been unpacked and that makes twice now in four to six months that I’ve had to ask your ass back
Sweetheart you just gotta let me know
Should I stay and if not, where the hell you reckon I oughta go?
I know it’s backass thinkin’ but please forgive what I do when I’ve been drinkin’ when I’m down and out so lost, lonesome and alone
You know I ain’t the letter writin’ kind print or type but then back when we started this romancingly stoned little adventure bitch I done told your ass now twice
And I know, that I know, that I know, no one knows more that than I, that I was wrong and still I can barely say I’m sorry with the fuckin’ song
And If you don’t want it that I should stay, just say
I’ll understand your needs either way, come what may
I know it’s all my fault and the bloody marriage to the deep alco-hole
I know it’s sad to say but right now these shots keep me sane, sober and alive
I love you more humanly possible than mere earthly words could describe and if I tried even in the heavenly tongues it’s purity mere language would still simply just pervert
And what little I am able to know of love I know that it hurts, it’s sick, it’s sick, it’s sick
It’s a sickness unto death and it’s a hell and at it’s best well hell there just ain’t nothin’ worse
I ain’t strung out or playing games stringin that lovely sass along and I’ve tried and I’ve tried and I’ve tried to explain myself, my sins, my heart, and my oh so very wrongs
Believe me babe it ain’t you hell knows why I do the dumb shit I do-do or think but dammit, heaven knows my heart It has been tried and has tried and god knows I’ve asked him why
And I know it don’t make it right singin’ a simple lullaby
But please accept my humble song.
It ain’t got shit to do with you and by god that’s god’s honest truth
There’s more in a man than the liquor and the lust that can make him anything but strong
And your the guiding light for which I live and I have nothing else that I could give and so I sing to you my song
And no, it’s not an excuse when I confess my love to you
And say I’m sorry with a song.
And woman when you know that I’m still runnin’, but your love if it keeps on comin’
I’m bound to circle round, line up, staring straight back into you.
And I know it don’t make it right singing a simple lullaby
But please accept my sorry with a song

Now that’s a gorgeous monster of a track, sprawling and country-tinged. Beautiful lyrics. The only guy who could follow it is Bob

http://youtu.be/3NL8OZ86UA4

It ain’t no use to sit and wonder why, babe
It don’t matter, anyhow
An’ it ain’t no use to sit and wonder why, babe
If you don’t know by now
When your rooster crows at the break of dawn
Look out your window and I’ll be gone
You’re the reason I’m trav’lin’ on
Don’t think twice, it’s all right

It ain’t no use in turnin’ on your light, babe
That light I never knowed
An’ it ain’t no use in turnin’ on your light, babe
I’m on the dark side of the road
Still I wish there was somethin’ you would do or say
To try and make me change my mind and stay
We never did too much talkin’ anyway
So don’t think twice, it’s all right

It ain’t no use in callin’ out my name, gal
Like you never did before
It ain’t no use in callin’ out my name, gal
I can’t hear you anymore
I’m a-thinkin’ and a-wond’rin’ all the way down the road
I once loved a woman, a child I’m told
I give her my heart but she wanted my soul
But don’t think twice, it’s all right

I’m walkin’ down that long, lonesome road, babe
Where I’m bound, I can’t tell
But goodbye’s too good a word, gal
So I’ll just say fare thee well
I ain’t sayin’ you treated me unkind
You could have done better but I don’t mind
You just kinda wasted my precious time
But don’t think twice, it’s all right

This is the Whitmark Demo and it’s even better!

Now let’s use Dylan as a smooth transition towards the next track.

Chelsea Girl is a fantastic album by Nico that you might know from the Velvet Underground’s first album, the famous banana one
So anyway, she gathered all the best songwriters on her solo debut: Bob Dylan, Tim Hardin, The Velvet Underground boys and a young prodigy called Jackson Browne. He wrote the amazing These Days and The Fairest of the seasons which is more relevant for today’s theme

http://youtu.be/sCtzWeafbpw

Now that it’s time
Now that the hour hand has landed at the end
Now that it’s real
Now that the dreams have given all they had to lend
I want to know
Do I stay or do I go
And maybe try another time

And do I really have a hand in my forgetting

Now that I’ve tried
Now that I’ve finally found that this is not the way
Now that I turn
Now that I feel it’s time to spend the night away
I want to know
Do I stay or do I go
And maybe finally spit the rind
And do I really understand the undernetting

Yes and the morning has me looking in your eyes and seeing mine
Warning me to read the signs carefully

Now that it’s love
Now that the candle’s falling smaller in my mind
Now that it’s here
Now that I’m almost not so very far behind
I want to know
Do I stay or do I go
And maybe fall another side
And do I really have a sound that I can ride on

Now that I can
Now that it’s easy ever easy all around
Now that I’m near
Now that I’m falling to the sunlights and to song
I want to know
Do I stay or do I go
And do I have to do just one
And can I choose again if I should lose the reason

Yes and the morning has me looking in your eyes and seeing mine
Warning me to read the signs oh carefully

Now that I smile
Now that I’m laughing even deeper in the side
Now that I see
Now that I finally found the one thing I denied
Its now I know
Do I stay or do I go
And it is finally I decide
That I’ll be leaving in the fairest of the seasons

And I leave you with something upbeat. Same question / different rhythm:
Should I Stay or Should I Go?

Oh yeeeeeaaaaah

Wooh!

Darling you got to let me know
Should I stay or should I go?
If you say that you are mine
I’ll be here ’til the end of time
So you got to let me know
Should I stay or should I go?

Always tease tease tease
You’re happy when I’m on my knees
One day is fine, next day is black
So if you want me off your back
Well come on and let me know
Should I stay or should I go?

Should I stay or should I go now?
Should I stay or should I go now?
If I go there will be trouble
An’ if I stay it will be double
So come on and let me know!

This indecision’s bugging me
Esta indecision me molesta
If you don’t want me, set me free
Si no me quieres, librame
Exactly whom I’m supposed to be
Dime que tengo que ser
Don’t you know which clothes even fit me?
¿sabes que ropas me quedan?
Come on and let me know
Me tienes que decir
Should I cool it or should I blow?
¿me debo ir o quedarme?

Split!
Yo me enfrio o lo sufro

Should I stay or should I go now?
yo me enfrio o lo sufro
Should I stay or should I go now?
yo me enfrio o lo sufro
If I go there will be trouble
Si me voy – va a haber peligro
And if I stay it will be double
Si me quedo es doble
So you gotta let me know
Pero me tienes que decir
Should I cool it or should I go?
yo me enfrio o lo sufro

Should I stay or should I go now?
yo me enfrio o lo sufro
If I go there will be trouble
Si me voy – va a haber peligro
And if I stay it will be double
Si me quedo es doble
So you gotta let me know
Pero me tienes que decir
Should I stay or should I go?

Buckets

with one comment

“Dullness is as much produced within doors as without, by rain.” – Jane Austen {Sense and Sensibility}

This is my last rain-related post of the season; I don’t care if I get April showers soon or Waters of March…
Maybe I should’ve started with a Bob Dylan quote?
He’s got a lot of rain-related material:
A Hard Rain’s a-Gonna Fall
– “Everybody is making love. Or else expecting rain.” – Desolation Row
Rainy Day Women #12 & 35 that’s got nothing to do with the subject
– The live album Hard Rain that was recorded in very rainy conditions
– On Blood On The Tracks, one of his best albums, he’s got two: Shelter from the Storm and of course Buckets of rain.
Weird thing is you can’t find the original on Youtube or on the internet. You’ll just have to settle for the Beth Orton version
Thanks Bob. Merci Buckets!

Buckets of rain
Buckets of tears
Got all them buckets coming out of my ears
Buckets of moonbeams in my hand
You got all the love honey baby
I can stand.

I been meek
And hard like and oak
I seen pretty people disappear like smoke
Friends will arrive friends will disappear
If you want me honey baby
I’ll be there.

I like your smile
And your fingertips
I like the way that you move your hips
I like the cool way you look at me
Everything about you is bringing me
Misery.

Little red wagon
Little red bike
I ain’t no monkey but I know what I like
I like the way you love me strong and slow
I’m taking you with me honey baby
When I go.

Life is sad
Life is a bust
All ya can do is do what you must
You do what you must do and ya do it well
I’ll do it for you honey baby
Can’t you tell ?

“Some people feel the rain. Others just get wet.” – Bob Dylan
And as usual, even when all of us are longing from sunshine some people ask for rain…

Rainmaker, rainmaker
The sky is gray just by the touch of your hand
Rainmaker, rainmaker
Make me some rain, make all my crops grow tall

Rainmaker, rainmaker
The sky is gray, the ground is so hard
It’s been cracked by the sun
Rainmaker, you know my work’s never done

And then you have The Beatles take on the subject… People are never happy: slipping in the shade when the sun comes out and hiding their heads when the rain comes

http://youtu.be/MPjDMZiuhbQ

If the rain comes they run and hide their heads.
They might as well be dead.
If the rain comes, if the rain comes.
When the sun shines they slip into the shade
(When the sun shines down.)
And sip their lemonade.
(When the sun shines down.)
When the sun shines, when the sun shines.
Rain, I don’t mind.
Shine, the world looks fine.
I can show you that when it starts to rain,
(When the Rain comes down.)
Everything’s the same.
(When the Rain comes down.)
I can show you, I can show you.
Rain, I don’t mind.
Shine, the world looks fine.
Can you hear me, that when it rains and shines,
(When it Rains and shines.)
It’s just a state of mind?
(When it rains and shines.)
Can you hear me, can you hear me?
If the rain comes they run and hide their heads.

Just remembered another Rain-related lyric by the Beatles from I Am The Walrus

Sitting in an English garden waiting for the sun.
If the sun don’t come, you get a tan
From standing in the English rain
.

And we will end this post with a long-awaited BJ Thomas favorite. This one’s for Ali. Thanks for bringing this video to my attention.
Proxima Estacion?

Raindrops keep falling on my head
And just like the guy whose feet are too big for his bed
Nothin’ seems to fit
Those raindrops are falling on my head, they keep falling

So I just did me some talkin’ to the sun
And I said I didn’t like the way he’ got things done
Sleepin’ on the job
Those raindrops are falling on my head, they keep falling

But there’s one thing I know
The blues he sends to meet me won’t defeat me
It won’t be long till happiness steps up to greet me

Raindrops keep falling on my head
But that doesn’t mean my eyes will soon be turnin’ red
Crying’s not for me
Cause I’m never gonna stop the rain by complainin’
Because I’m free
Nothing’s worrying me

Time

Time takes a cigarette, puts it in your mouth
You pull on your finger, then another finger, then your cigarette
The wall-to-wall is calling, it lingers, then you forget
Ohhh how how how, you’re a rock ‘n’ roll suicide

You’re too old to lose it, too young to choose it
And the clocks waits so patiently on your song
You walk past a cafe but you don’t eat when you’ve lived too long
Oh, no, no, no, you’re a rock ‘n’ roll suicide

Chev brakes are snarling as you stumble across the road
But the day breaks instead so you hurry home
Don’t let the sun blast your shadow
Don’t let the milk float ride your mind
They’re so natural – religiously unkind

Oh no love! you’re not alone
You’re watching yourself but you’re too unfair
You got your head all tangled up but if I could only
make you care
Oh no love! you’re not alone
No matter what or who you’ve been
No matter when or where you’ve seen
All the knives seem to lacerate your brain
I’ve had my share, I’ll help you with the pain
You’re not alone

Just turn on with me and you’re not alone
Let’s turn on with me and you’re not alone (wonderful)
Gimme your hands cause you’re wonderful (wonderful)
Gimme your hands cause you’re wonderful (wonderful)
Oh gimme your hands.

And I really recommend you watch this live version.
That’s the last song of the final Ziggy Stardust concert at the Hammersmith Odeon, London, on July 3, 1973. Before beginning the song, Bowie announced: “Everybody… this has been one of the greatest tours of our lives. I would like to thank the band. I would like to thank our road crew. I would like to thank our lighting people. Of all of the shows on this tour, this particular show will remain with us the longest because not only is it–not only is it the last show of the tour, but it’s the last show that we’ll ever do. Thank you.”

Of course he only meant he was killing off Ziggy. Thankfully he continued touring for another 30 years before disappearing a few years ago. I got to see him in the early noughties around the same time I saw Bob Dylan! Now that was a good year for concerts…

http://youtu.be/mZUhsxdV3VM

Most of the time
I’m clear focused all around
Most of the time
I can keep both feet on the ground
I can follow the path
I can read the sign
Stay right with it when the road unwinds
I can handle whatever
I stumble upon
I don’t even notice she’s gone
Most of the time.

Most of the time it’s well understood
Most of the time I wouldn’t change it if I could
I can make it all match up
I can hold my own
I can deal with the situation right down to the bone
I can survive and I can endure
And I don’t even think about her
Most of the time.

Most of the time my head is on straight
Most of the time I’m strong enough not to hate
I don’t build up illusion ’til it makes me sick
I ain’t afraid of confusion no matter how thick
I can smile in the face of mankind
Don’t even remember what her lips felt like on mine
Most of the time.

Most of the time she ain’t even in my mind
I wouldn’t know her if I saw her
She’s that far behind
Most of the time I can even be sure
If she was ever with me
Or if I was ever with her
Most of the time I’m halfway content
Most of the time I know exactly where it went
I don’t cheat on myself I don’t run and hide
Hide from the feelings that are buried inside
I don’t compromise and I don’t pretend
I don’t even care if I ever see her again
Most of the time.

If you’re lost you can look and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you I’ll be waiting
Time after time

And we end with a small jazzy bonus. Good night!

Where?

leave a comment »

Well we know where we’re goin’
But we don’t know where we’ve been
And we know what we’re knowin’
But we can’t say what we’ve seen
And we’re not little children
And we know what we want
And the future is certain
Give us time to work it out

We’re on a ride to nowhere
Come on inside
Takin’ that ride to nowhere
We’ll take that ride

http://youtu.be/AWtCittJyr0

I’m feelin’ okay this mornin’
And you know,
We’re on the road to paradise
Here we go, here we go

Maybe you wonder where you are
I don’t care
Here is where time is on our side
Take you there…take you there

We’re on a road to nowhere
We’re on a road to nowhere
We’re on a road to nowhere

There’s a city in my mind
Come along and take that ride
and it’s all right, baby, it’s all right

And it’s very far away
But it’s growing day by day
And it’s all right, baby, it’s all right

Would you like to come along
And to help me sing this song
And it’s all right, baby, it’s all right

They can tell you what to do
But they’ll make a fool of you
And it’s all right, baby, it’s all right
We’re on a road to nowhere

http://youtu.be/C1_C4lC-wOc

Said to the man at the railroad station
“I want a ticket, just for one”
He said, “well, if you insist
Where you wanna go, a miss? Oh”

Destination anywhere
East or west, I don’t care
You see my baby don’t want me no more
This old world, ain’t got no back door

Mixing it up slightly here. Have you seen The Commitments? Haven’t seen it in ages. I’m scared it might’ve not aged too well. So the Youtube link is the film version, but the download link above is the Marvelettes’.

So we’ve been from nowhere to anywhere…

http://youtu.be/6lBAPBzADxo

Sultry in the summer heat.
I know with you we can’t be beat.
Take me somewhere.
Take me somewhere.
Take me somewhere.
Why don’t you take me somewhere?

http://youtu.be/jbsaj0XHUeg

Can you hear me calling
Out your name
You know that I’m falling
And I don’t know what to say

Come along baby
We better make a start
You better make it soon
Before you break my heart

Oh I…
I want to be with you everywhere

Do you have the impression you’ve heard a recent cover of this song?
Or maybe it was just Cut Copy’s Take Me Over?

To lead a better life I need my love to be here…

Here, making each day of the year
Changing my life with a wave of her hand
Nobody can deny that there’s something there

There, running my hands through her hair
Both of us thinking how good it can be
Someone is speaking but she doesn’t know he’s there

I want her everywhere and if she’s beside me
I know I need never care
But to love her is to need her everywhere
Knowing that love is to share

Each one believing that love never dies
Watching her eyes and hoping I’m always there

I want her everywhere and if she’s beside me
I know I need never care
But to love her is to need her everywhere
Knowing that love is to share

Each one believing that love never dies
Watching her eyes and hoping I’m always there

I will be there and everywhere
Here, there and everywhere

And Bob will sign us off…

I don’t care
How many letters they sent
Morning came and morning went
Pick up your money
And pack up your tent
You ain’t goin’ nowhere

Blue

with 2 comments

Just one of those days.
Woke up with Mood Indigo in my head. Ella’s version. Couldn’t get up. Couldn’t move… Well maybe it was the 2h basketball session I had last night. Put me to sleep and destroyed me more than anything else I’ve had in the last few weeks.

If you want to hear another version of this Duke Ellington song you can always check out the Boswell sisters‘ (Blues all around my head…)

You ain’t been blue; no, no, no.
You ain’t been blue,
Till you’ve had that mood indigo.
That feelin’ goes stealin’ down to my shoes
While I sit and sigh, “Go ‘long blues”.

Always get that mood indigo,
Since my baby said goodbye.
In the evenin’ when lights are low,
I’m so lonesome I could cry.

‘Cause there’s nobody who cares about me,
I’m just a soul who’s
bluer than blue can be.
When I get that mood indigo,
I could lay me down and die.

Gitanes Jazz is a series of compilation from the early nineties. Thematically organized, they introduced me to all sorts of tracks including Ella’s Mood indigo and Chet Baker’s Born To Be Blue. His voice just killed me. And then the looks… It was before I realized he played the trumpet and I saw him sitting behind the piano. It was the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

I guess I’m luckier than some folks
I’ve known the thrill of loving you
but that alone is more
than i was created for
’cause i was born to be blue

If you want a woman’s take on the same song, there’s always this Helen Merrill cover. But I’m slightly biased towards the first one.
Chet Baker had the kind of life you’d expect of him and wound up a total wreck of a junkie at the end of the eighties. If you have the time and the inclination, watch Let’s Get Lost on Youtube. If not, let’s continue with the blue theme. Chet also covered Elvis Costello’s Almost blue around that time of his life. I discovered this track very recently. His take is so much smoother than Costello’s. The original can’t help being spiteful. Sorry Elvis, that angry young man reputation isn’t wearing off and you’re 57!

http://youtu.be/Zju3lT02PiE

Almost blue
Almost doing things we used to do
There’s a girl here and she’s almost you
Almost all the things that your eyes once promised
I see in hers too
Now your eyes are red from crying

Almost blue
Flirting with this disaster became me
It named me as the fool who only aimed to be

Almost blue
It’s almost touching it will almost do
There’s a part of me that’s always true…always
Not all good things come to an end now it is only a chosen few
I’ve seen such an unhappy couple

Almost me
Almost you
Almost blue

Had enough of all this blue?
Sorry, there’s one last one for the road. We’re revealing the immaterial… Not….
Seriously now, we’ll go out with a bang: Tangled Up In Blue from one of the ultimate break-up albums, Blood On The Tracks.

We always did feel the same
We just saw it from a different point of view
Tangled up in blue

Here’s the original New York Sessions version. Note the different lyrics. I feel he initially couldn’t sing it from his own point of view.
Last night, I was listening to Don’t Think Twice It’s Alright in a bar and told the person with me that listening to Bob made me cry. But I didn’t expect to have such an emotional morning…

People tell me it’s a sin
To know and feel too much within
I still believe she was my twin, but I lost the ring
She was born in spring, but I was born too late
Blame it on a simple twist of fate

Lay

leave a comment »

I’m not wearing an iron armor
So if you wanna feel a little warmer
Any time be my guest
Lay your head on my chest

You should let me drive the car yo
And play good music on the stereo
From this town to the next
Lay your head on my chest

Herman Düne – Lay your head on my chest

My father calls his chest a runway. He used to encourage me to do sports in order for my chest to get larger and entice women to come and land on it. His selection would have been closer to Put Your Head On My Shoulder
And I could have played all my “chest songs” but i think I’ll stick with LAY. Not the chips…
Does this explain the picture of the plane landing… or could it have been “lay-over”?

Timber Timbre – Lay Down In The Tall Grass

Lay down and wait for you
with nothing but a piece of rope
Dreaming every night of you
Shaking at the sight
I’ll be dreaming every night of you
I’ll be shaking at the sight – of – you

Similar subject matter and imagery. Laying down on both sides of the grass…

This is the best cover of this Tom Waits song from the 2004 album Real Gone. If you want to download Agathe & Fine’s version of Green grass, have a look here. And go check their covers of Tom Waits’ Innocent When You Dream and Beirut’s Postcards from Italy. Watching girls playing ukuleles is quickly becoming a serious turn-on / fetish…

Lay your head where my heart used to be
Hold the earth above me
Lay down in the green grass
Remember when you loved me

Come closer don’t be shy
Stand beneath a rainy sky
The moon is over the rise
Think of me as a train goes by…

And now we get to the serious laying.
Unfortunately, Prince says: Come! lie beneath my shadow
So we go to Bob Dylan’s Country album Nashville Skyline for one of his most powerful declarations

http://youtu.be/U_yvrugtnpo

Why wait any longer for the world to begin
You can have your cake and eat it too
Why wait any longer for the one you love
When he’s standing in front of you

Obviously with lyrics like that you’re bound to get Laid

Very catchy song. But the lyrics are rubbish.

This bed is on fire
With passionate love
The neighbors complain about the noises above
But she only comes when she’s on top

My therapist said not to see you no more
She said you’re like a disease without any cure
She said I’m so obsessed that I’m becoming a bore, oh no
Ah, you think you’re so pretty

Caught your hand inside a till
Slammed your fingers in the door
Fought with kitchen knives and skewers
Dressed me up in women’s clothes
Messed around with gender roles
Dye my eyes and call me pretty

Moved out of the house, so you moved next door
I locked you out, you cut a hole in the wall
I found you sleeping next to me, I thought I was alone
You’re driving me crazy, when are you coming home
Pretty
Pretty

– You won’t forget about me?

– I won’t forget about you. It’s cool. No matter where he takes you…Timbuktu, it don’t matter. ‘Cause we’re fate. You know? Nobody can stop fate. Nobody can.
And one of these nights soon…I’m gonna be comin’ for you.

I’ve been driving after midnight, shoulda been walkin’: it would have been closer to today’s theme.
Met a country-lover. The raunchier/louder stuff. But I couldn’t help but think of Patsy Cline.

Crazy
I’m Crazy for feeling so lonely

http://youtu.be/K-wJNpWgss8

Here’s the original but you HAVE to check out this great version by the Kills.

So, anyway Patsy sang a lot of great country songs including “You belong to me”.
Rose McGowan covered it in Grindhouse: Planet Terror. But the Tarantino connection is even older since Bob Dylan’s version was used in Natural Born Killers (which was based on a script by Quentin)…
Sorry I got carried away with all this useless trivia I carry around.
Here’s the song and the small dialogue excerpt quoted above. Unfortunately it’s just a still.

See the pyramids along the Nile
Watch the sunrise on a tropic isle
Just remember darlin’ all the while
You belong to me

See the market place in Old Algiers
Send me photographs and souvenirs
Just remember when a dream appears
You belong to me

I’ll be so alone without you
Maybe you’ll be lonesome too, and blue

Fly the ocean in a silver plane
See the jungle when it’s wet with rain
Just remember ’til you’re home again
You belong to me

And now we go full circle. From “You Belong To Me” we skip to one of the most beautiful Dylan tracks ever. From Bringing It All Back Home: “She Belongs To Me”

But I prefer this version from the The Bootleg Series, Vol. 7: No Direction Home – The Soundtrack

She’s got everything she needs,
She’s an artist, she don’t look back.
She’s got everything she needs,
She’s an artist, she don’t look back.
She can take the dark out of the nighttime
And paint the daytime black.

Want

“People often desire something but don’t really want it. Don’t be afraid to want what you desire.”Slavoj Žižek speaking to Occupy Wall Street

I think I’ve been living under a rock. Completely out of touch with the outside world.
This movement has actually grown? I hate it when I’m that skeptical at first.
It reminds of my reaction to the initial call for demonstrations in Syria a few months ago. I stupidly scoffed…

Anyway, I think I’ll scramble back under my rock and play ostrich. Here are my thoughts for today.
No Lyrics; it would be too much. Especially this first version…
