Grind

My face is finished
my body’s gone
and I can’t help but think
standin’ up here in all this applause
and gazin’ down at all the young and the beautiful
with their questioning eyes
that I must above all things love myself
Nick Cave just pulled the plug on Grinderman, his horny/sleazy side-project that released 2 albums and toured for the last few years.

I saw a girl in the crowd
I ran over I shouted out
I asked if I could take her out
but she said that she didn’t want to
I changed the sheets on my bed
I combed my hair across my head
I sucked in my gut and still she said
that she just didn’t want to
I read her Eliot and I read her Yeats
I tried my best to stay up late
I fixed the hinges on her gate
but still she just never wanted to
I bought her a dozen snow white doves
I did her dishes in rubber gloves
I called her honey bee, I called her love
but she just still didn’t want to
she just never wants to
Damn!
I sent her every type of flower
I played the guitar by the hour
I patted her revolting little chihuahua
but still she just didn’t want to
I wrote a song with 100 lines
I picked a bunch of dandelions
I walked her through the trembling pines
but she just even then didn’t want to
she just never wants to
I thought I’d try another ‘tack
I’d drink a liter of cognac
I threw her down upon her back
but she just laughed and said she just didn’t want to
I thought I’d have another go
I called her my little whore
I felt like Marcel Marceau must feel when
she said that she just never wanted to
she just didn’t want to
I got the no pussy blues
When you think sleaze and horniness, Prince comes to mind of course. Here’s one of his sexiest tracks off Purple Rain.

I knew a girl named Nikki
I guess u could say she was a sex fiend
I met her in a hotel lobby
Masturbating with a magazine
She said how’d u like 2 waste some time
And I could not resist when I saw little Nikki grind
She took me 2 her castle
And I just couldn’t believe my eyes
She had so many devices
Everything that money could buy
She said sign your name on the dotted line
The lights went out
And Nikki started 2 grind
Nikki
The castle started spinning
Or maybe it was my brain
I can’t tell u what she did 2 me
But my body will never be the same
Her lovin’ will kick your behind
Oh, she’ll show u no mercy
But she’ll sho’nuff sho’nuff show u how 2 grind
Woke up the next morning
Nikki wasn’t there
I looked all over and all I found
Was a phone unmber on the stairs
It said thank u 4 a funky time
Call me up whenever u want 2 grind
Oh, Nikki, ohhhh
come back Nikki, come back
Your dirty little Prince
wanna grind grind grind grind grind grind grind grind grind
Country
– I won’t forget about you. It’s cool. No matter where he takes you…Timbuktu, it don’t matter. ‘Cause we’re fate. You know? Nobody can stop fate. Nobody can.
And one of these nights soon…I’m gonna be comin’ for you.
I’ve been driving after midnight, shoulda been walkin’: it would have been closer to today’s theme.
Met a country-lover. The raunchier/louder stuff. But I couldn’t help but think of Patsy Cline.
Crazy
I’m Crazy for feeling so lonely
http://youtu.be/K-wJNpWgss8
Here’s the original but you HAVE to check out this great version by the Kills.
So, anyway Patsy sang a lot of great country songs including “You belong to me”.
Rose McGowan covered it in Grindhouse: Planet Terror. But the Tarantino connection is even older since Bob Dylan’s version was used in Natural Born Killers (which was based on a script by Quentin)…
Sorry I got carried away with all this useless trivia I carry around.
Here’s the song and the small dialogue excerpt quoted above. Unfortunately it’s just a still.
See the pyramids along the Nile
Watch the sunrise on a tropic isle
Just remember darlin’ all the while
You belong to me
See the market place in Old Algiers
Send me photographs and souvenirs
Just remember when a dream appears
You belong to me
I’ll be so alone without you
Maybe you’ll be lonesome too, and blue
Fly the ocean in a silver plane
See the jungle when it’s wet with rain
Just remember ’til you’re home again
You belong to me
And now we go full circle. From “You Belong To Me” we skip to one of the most beautiful Dylan tracks ever. From Bringing It All Back Home: “She Belongs To Me”

But I prefer this version from the The Bootleg Series, Vol. 7: No Direction Home – The Soundtrack
She’s got everything she needs,
She’s an artist, she don’t look back.
She’s got everything she needs,
She’s an artist, she don’t look back.
She can take the dark out of the nighttime
And paint the daytime black.
