Pretty ugly
Ambition makes you look pretty ugly
Kicking and squealing gucci little piggy
You don’t remember
You don’t remember
Why don’t you remember my name?
Off with his head, man
Off with his head, man
Why don’t you remember my name?
I guess he does….
I love the track and the video. And I love that the lyrics popped into my head after I had prepared the whole post and was looking for a title. So it’s like a cherry on top that kinda changes the whole perspective. Here’s how this was supposed to start:
In the fairground Pretty Lisa’s selling candy by the bar
Pretty Lisa’s training hard to be a high-wire star
Lisa’s life is just a journey upon a roundabout
Everything is very pretty until the ride runs out
Dashing Tony is her trainer he got straight white teeth
Lisa thinks that he is an angel, but he’s a pimp and he’s a thief
Well, life is just a ride upon a roundabout
But pretty soon, that ride it will run out
Tony has his pretty Lisa tattooed from head toe
Now he’s sitting in a booth with her in the freak show
Tony hits his pretty Lisa but everything is fine
The tattoos they hide the bruises every time
Do you know Alex Beaupain? I thought I had discovered him in Les Chansons d’amour but I had already seen 17 fois Cécile Cassard so that means this was my first encounter
Now the party is over
And I guess I’m over too
The music is going slower
I just can’t take my eyes off you
Pretty killer, little crime
Dancing with another guy
Have no chance to kiss you later
I think I’ve lost too many times
And now I’m too drunk to be your lover
You’re to sober to be mine
Pretty killer, little crime
Dancing with another guy
There’s no more ‘come on Eileen’
No more DJs to save my life
What could I do to frighten him?
I forgot to take my knife
Pretty killer, little crime
Dancing with another guy
Pretty killer, kills me well
Dances with all the men
And now, the reason for this post’s title
Sunshine
Been keeping me up for days
There is no nightime
It’s only a passing phase
And I feel pretty
Pretty enough for you
I felt so ugly before
I didn’t know what to do
Sometimes
Is all I feel up to now
But it’s not worth it to you
Because you got to get high somehow
Is it destruction
That you’re required to feel?
Like somebody wants you
Someone that’s more for real
Sunshine
Been keeping me up for days
There is no nightime
Only a passing phase
And I’ll feel pretty
Another hour or two
I felt so ugly before
I didn’t know what to do
Ugly before
But let’s end this on an uplifting positive note:
I feel pretty,
Oh, so pretty,
I feel pretty and witty and bright!
And I pity
Any girl who isn’t me tonight.
I feel charming,
Oh, so charming
It’s alarming how charming I feel!
And so pretty
That I hardly can believe I’m real.
See the pretty girl in that mirror there:
Who can that attractive girl be?
Such a pretty face,
Such a pretty dress,
Such a pretty smile,
Such a pretty me!
I feel stunning
And entrancing,
Feel like running and dancing for joy,
For I’m loved
By a pretty wonderful boy!
GIRLS
Have you met my good friend Maria,
The craziest girl on the block?
You’ll know her the minute you see her,
She’s the one who is in an advanced state of shock.
She thinks she’s in love.
She thinks she’s in Spain.
She isn’t in love,
She’s merely insane.
It must be the heat
Or some rare disease,
Or too much to eat
Or maybe it’s fleas.
Keep away from her,
Send for Chino!
This is not the
Maria we know!
Modest and pure,
Polite and refined,
Well-bred and mature
And out of her mind!
MARIA
I feel pretty,
Oh, so pretty
That the city should give me its key.
A committee
Should be organized to honor me.
GIRLS
La la la la . . .
MARIA
I feel dizzy,
I feel sunny,
I feel fizzy and funny and fine,
And so pretty,
Miss America can just resign!
GIRLS
La la la la . . .
MARIA
See the pretty girl in that mirror there:
GIRLS
What mirror where?
MARIA
Who can that attractive girl be?
GIRLS
Which? What? Where? Whom?
MARIA
Such a pretty face,
Such a pretty dress,
Such a pretty smile,
Such a pretty me!
GIRLS
Such a pretty me!
ALL
I feel stunning
And entrancing,
Feel like running and dancing for joy,
For I’m loved
By a pretty wonderful boy!
And the last piece of sunshine:
Oh little bitty pretty one (Little bitty pretty)
Come on and talk to me (Little bitty pretty)
Lovey dovey lovely one (Little bitty pretty)
Come sit down on my knee (Little bitty pretty)
